LAUDERDALE, Fl. and MEMPHIS, Tn. – (October 22, 2015) –BrightStar Care® of Ft. Lauderdale, a premier private-duty home healthcare agency, and Christie Medical Holdings, Inc., a global leader in portable vascular imaging systems, today reported use of theChristie VeinViewer® Flexvein finder has helped improve the care provided to BrightStar Care of Ft. Lauderdale home infusion clients.

Because of their chronic illnesses, home healthcare patients receiving regular intravenous therapy may present a difficult challenge when it comes to finding a vein. Nurses providing care may have previously had no choice but to attempt numerous venipunctures in order to deliver necessary treatment. In 2013, BrightStar Care of Ft. Lauderdale was the first home healthcare agency in the country to adopt a new technology to help improve venipuncture success for their clients. VeinViewer vein illumination has been shown to greatly increase first-stick success for IV access. VeinViewer Flex is the only device of its kind that can be taken directly into the patient’s home.

“VeinViewer Flex is easy to use and has saved us countless repeat sticks,” said Al Zweig, RN, director of infusion services for BrightStar Care of Ft. Lauderdale. “We have had patients that while in the hospital were stuck over 20 times to get a single IV line started. Now when we schedule their home visits, our patients tell us ‘Don’t show up without the VeinViewer.'”

The Christie VeinViewer Flex system uses harmless near-infrared light to detect patient vasculature and then projects a real-time, high-definition image of the vein pattern directly on the skin surface. Nurses can quickly find more options for accessing a patient’s veins. A more thorough assessment with VeinViewer Flex means patients may avoid multiple needle sticks and possible future complications sometimes associated with IV access.

“We know that families in our area have a lot of options when choosing home care services,” stated Bill Tolia, president and co-owner of BrightStar Care Ft. Lauderdale. “We want to be the company that gives our clients throughout the Ft. Lauderdale and Pompano Beach area the highest level of in-home care available. In the two years we have been using VeinViewer Flex, we have saved our clients the pain and anxiety of multiple needlesticks and made more of a difference in their quality of life.”

BrightStar Care of Ft. Lauderdale is part of the BrightStar Care franchise system.
